Final thoughts

I have mixed feelings about Wii Fit. It was somewhat entertaining for about 30 days, but then it loses its excitement and becomes tedious. I had reoccurring injuries to my left ankle, which I believe are from running in place for 30 minutes at a time. Had I had forward momentum and the full range associated with running outside or on a treadmill, I don't think I would have kept hurting my ankle.

Because of this, I stopped doing the activities on Day 36. While I did lose some weight during that time, I think that I would have lost quite a bit more had I not been limited to doing stationary activities that only lasted 30-60 seconds.

The trainer in the game seems somewhat soulless. You hear the same voice samples over and over, and the lack of a detailed face is somewhat disturbing. I hope to see them put a little more life into the trainers. The balance board character had much more soul than the trainer.

One thing that I thought was genius was integration of Miis in the game. I had a couple of friends create a Mii on my Wii system. I could really connect (and not feel so alone) when I saw a friend run past me on the track, or excercise next to me on the Basic Step.

The boxing was one of my favorite exercises, but the experience was tarnished by the cord between the two controllers. Whenever you punch, the cord often flipped up over my hand or just got in the way. Nintendo really needs to consider making their nunchuck controller wireless.

If you are considering using Wii Fit, make sure that you have plenty of space in front of your TV to do so. Most people have a sofa or coffee table in front of the TV. I had to move my coffee table aside any time I wanted to use Wii Fit, so that was a real inconvenience. I am thrilled to finally have my living room back.

I probably won't continue using Wii Fit. It's fun for the occasional workout, but I still see it as a game and not a serious way to exercise.

I started at 232.6 lbs. and my final weigh-in was 226.2 lbs., for a loss of 6.4 lbs. I was down to about 222 lbs. but then Thanksgiving and my birthday came along and I gained a few back. Otherwise, I expect that I would be about 220 right now. I am much more conscious about watching what I eat and the need for exercise, so I will continue exercising... just not with Wii Fit.
